It's amazing how many ex-CKSO's are around here (referencing CTV in Toronto).
As for me I left CKSO in 1974 and came to CTV as the first of the Sudbury 9. Only 3 of us remain. I left CTV in 1981 and went to a post production house called 'Motion Picture Video' where I edited a vast number of commercials, rock videos, music shows, and movies. I remember transferring the rushes for the movie "Videodrome" by David Cronenberg and colour correcting "Seasons in The Sun", a Terry Jacks film long forgotten. It was a fantastic experience and I learned so much from the other editors.
In 1985 I left MPV and came to CFTO but only stayed 4 months before going to Magnetic North (a production company), another post house where I continued my commercials, etc. road. My claim to fame here was doing the famous Club Med "Hands Up" ads. I think we did something like 40 in three hours. Also more videos like "Go For A Soda" and a few by Honeymoon Suite, plus many one hit wonders. MagNorth was a wonder place to work and I was very sorry to leave. There were so many wonderful guys and girls who worked there that it was a pleasure to go to work every day. In 1990 I ended up in Hamilton at CHCH until I was laid off in 1996. While in Hamilton I had the great pleasure to work with Steve Smith on the first 12 episodes of the "Red Green Show". He is a terrific guy and very talented. It was the beginning of a long run for him and I still see my shows on Comedy Channel. This brings us to 1997 and once again I'm back at CTV with many old friends who I have worked with at the different companies I was previously with. The industry just gets smaller.
I remember Richard Scott as he always recorded the late movie intros and threw in the name Leonard Detwhiler and the crew chief of the night as stars of the movie. It was one of his little jokes he'd pull while recording. My friend Tom Leparkus worked in AM as Tom Kelly then went to Windsor as Charlie O'Brien. I believe he is still there we haven't seen each other in years.
I was going to be a famous Canadian drummer in my youth and played with a number of bands and one I continued to play with for many years, the 'Bowtie Blues Band' formed in 1970, and the last version was in 2002 and me being the only original member, I am hoping to reform it when I retire.
