Dave took the time to write to CKSO.com in September of 2013.  We were grateful that he reached out and appreciate some of his memories as shared here.

That photo (CKSO news audio production board; to the right) brings back some fond memories.  The news production "board" was the craftsmanship or our radio engineer Helmut Frauscher.

Prior to returning to CKSO for the third time in 1975 (I'd been there in the mid and late '60's) I had worked at CKGM Montreal and CHUM Toronto.  Both these stations  had excellent working news audio production desks.  I explained to Helmut in general terms what I would like here.  Lo and behold he came up with that masterpiece which far surpassed my wildest dreams.  Too bad he didn't copyright the design.

My favourite Helmut Frauscher story:

Germany was playing England in some major football (soccer) match-up that was being broadcast on CBC of which we were an affiliate.  Needless to say Helmut was hoping for the favoured German team.  We made a ten dollar bet, with me taking England.  Game over and the final score was England 1 Germany 0.   A rather dejected Helmet came to pay off his $10.00.  I told him I couldn't accept it, that he had been listening to a delayed broadcast of the game and I had already seen the final score on the Broadcast News wire service before we made the wager.

By the way that "calendar" at the top of the green cabinet is from a BN calendar.  I used to clip it from the previous months’ sheet which also showed the month ahead and scotch tape it there.

Enjoy your website.
Cheers
