Michael Connor
Career
Michael Connor began his career in broadcasting at CFRN in Edmonton, Alberta.
He came to Sudbury to raise his family and became the news anchor at CKSO
TV. Although viewers may not have seen Michael on the air so
much in the later part of the 1970's, he was still very busy in TV
Advertising Sales in which he finished his career as a top salesman at MCTV.
Prior to his broadcasting career, Michael served in the North
Atlantic during World War II. He was a young cadet in the
British Navy. When the war was over, he assisted with the
repatriation of Prisoners of War in the South Pacific.
He had a great love of music. Opera was a particular favourite.
He was inspired to learn the Italian language and gave the
occasional TV Weather report in Italian. He
was a member of the Societa Caruso and was
made an honorary life member of the Fogolan Furlan.
As a family man, broadcaster and friend to many, he certainly
touched the lives of so many sharing a sense of humour,
conversation, knowledge and support to his co-workers. He has
been described as a true gentleman.
Michael passed away in December of 2008 in his 82nd year. He
is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lynn and children Brendan,
Shauneen, Kirby and his wife Lauri, Jarron and husband Amir, Sabrina
and husband Mike and five grandchildren. |
